To make grants to appropriate charities for the relief of those who are in need, hardship or distress, and to make grants for community development, the preservation of historic buildings and their collections of art and antiquities, the security of the United Kingdom, the welfare of serving or former members of HM Armed Forces, the promotion of the work of the Cadet Forces and emergency services.
