HERTFORD POOR'S ESTATE

Every year the trustees receive applications from Hertford residents and, having checked their financial circumstances, those qualifying receive a cash grant prior to Christmas. An important extra condition is that applicants must reside within the borough boundary as defined in 1680, which now represents a relatively small proportion of the present town of Hertford.
